There are moments most people don’t discuss. They are not the big, cinematic turning points we make them out to be. It’s not the announcement, or the launch, or the visible success.
They’re the quiet moments when you realize you want something different…and just as quickly, we talk ourselves out of it.
Not because we don’t care.
But because somewhere along the way, we started believing we had to be ready first.
Ready enough.
Clear enough.
Perfect enough.
And if we’re not?
We wait. And after we wait, we believe it’s too late. And after we believe that it’s too late, we remain in the same state.
Un grande problem is social media. Social media has made “starting” look like something it’s not.
It looks polished.
It looks strategic.
It looks like people woke up one day with clarity, confidence, and a finalized five-step plan.
So when our beginning feels uncertain, or messy, or incomplete, we assume we’re not there yet.
But that’s the illusion.
Most people aren’t late.
We’re just stuck in the space before we let ourselves begin.
We let the email sit in drafts.
The idea we keep “circling back to” keeps spinning endlessly.
The decision we almost made… but we need one more opinion (typically from someone who has never done what we’re desiring to do.)
It’s rarely about capability.
It’s about the weight of feeling like we need to do it right.
So instead, nothing happens.
What I’ve learned again (and again) is that change doesn’t come from doing everything at once.
It comes from doing something small enough that you don’t resist it.
Not “figure out your entire next chapter.”
Just… open the document.
Write the first line.
Send the one message.
Make the one call.
Small steps feel insignificant while you’re taking them.
But they’re the only steps that actually create movement.
And movement is what shifts everything.
Because we don’t gain clarity before we start.
We gain clarity because we’ve started.
We don’t build confidence and then take action.
We take action—and confidence slowly meets you there.
If you’re feeling stuck right now at this moment while you’re reading this, don’t try to fix your entire life right now, while you’re reading this.
Instead:
Pick one thing that matters to you. Not five, just one.
Break it down until it feels almost too easy.
Give yourself a small window of time; 10 minutes is enough.
And then… begin.
Not perfectly.
Not completely.
Just honestly.
I also think we underestimate how much harder everything feels when we’re doing it alone.
When there’s no container for it.
No time set aside.
No sense of shared momentum.
That’s really the spirit behind both the Accountability Group we’ve built (and we would love to have you; we just welcomed a new member this week) and even something as simple as the Admin Happy Hour happening next week.
It’s not about productivity in a performative way.
It’s about finally giving yourself the space to handle the things you’ve been carrying in your head for far too long, alongside other people doing the same.
There’s something powerful about that kind of quiet momentum.
At the end of the day, when we have poured un verre de vin rouge, champagne, or sparkling water, I want us to feel whole. Whole in the knowing that today, we took one small step to position ourselves for life, career, trip, spouse, education, insert whatever your goal is here.
It’s about starting.
And reminding ourselves that as long as we’re here…as long as we woke up today…we still have time to try.
To shift something.
To begin again.
To take one small step in a different direction.
That’s all it takes.
Not a perfect plan.
Just a beginning.
If no one else has told you this week, or today, I’m honored to be the first. I’m proud of you, not because of what you’ve done but because of what you’re doing. Simply starting.
Ciao for now 💋
