Luxury is a Lifestyle.

Some of the most luxurious people I know do NOT own designer items.

Oui, mes amies, you read that right.

Bonjour mes amies! Luxury never had a price tag, and if you weren’t convinced before, the world which was forever altered in 2020 should convince you to share my thoughts.

It was at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic that many of us began to see a healthy life as the ultimate luxury.

Every time we turned on the radio or watched the news, we were bombarded with death tolls that grew by the second.

We were reminded (or informed) just how many people in this country depended on institutions to provide for meals for their children.

At grocery stores, we were greeted avec empty shelves and counters.

It was also during this time that we realized the simple things that we took for granted.

The ability to leave our home to grab un cafe from a local café. Being able to visit a loved one. Or even giving un ami a hug.

For those who were fortunate enough to have employment that allowed them to work from home, a new luxury was presented.

The luxury of not commuting on crammed modes of transportation for countless hours. The luxury of working remotely and being closer to loved ones. The luxury of preparing home-cooked meals. The luxury of learning a new craft or even reading a book. The luxury of leisure and slow living.

This post is not meant to make lite of an event that has forever changed our lives. My only desire is to create a sense of gratitude for many things we may have taken for granted.

If you need to be reminded of more luxuries in your life, here goes.

Flicking a switch in your home and lights turning on is a luxury. Opening a refrigerator and being able to provide a meal for yourself (and family, if applicable) is a luxury. Having access to the internet and an able mind to read this post is a luxury.

You are surrounded by luxury mes amies, which have nothing to do with Louis Vuitton, Gucci, or Prada.

Open a window, step on your porch (or balcony) and breathe in the fresh air avec un cup of tea or my personal favorite, a cappuccino. Once you exhale, give merci for all the luxuries you are currently surrounded by.

If you can do this, mes amies, you are by far one of the most luxurious people I have ever met.

Ciao for now 💋

Wonderful reminder! As we’re slowly moving back into old habits I think I have been forgetting how much some of these “little things” were missed just a short time ago.

    • So true! It’s human nature to soon forget. I believe most people are thankful overall, even if we don’t verbally express it.
