Champagne Papi: Weekend in Toronto

Bonjour mes amies!

Let’s address the magenta elephant in the room; it is a total coincidence that The Husband strikingly resembles (mon amour) Drake. Be that as it may, that has very little to do with my affinity for Toronto.

This time (Feb 2020) last year I wanted authentic Indian food. Not the Indian food that has been made palatable for the American taste buds but really good Indian.

Since I had an important meeting scheduled for Monday, jet-setting to Mumbai wasn’t feasible. So we did the next best thing, Toronto. Toronto has the best Indian food on this side of the pond, and it doesn’t hurt that I absolutely love the city.

I call Toronto the United Nations of North America. It is in this city that I can practice speaking Turkish, Russian, French, Italian, German and Xhosa while shopping at the LCBD.

Toronto is also one of my favorite cities to thrift in and discover emerging fashion designers and artists. I am obsessed with graffiti, and I’d go as far as to say that Toronto’s graffiti scene rivals Berlin (and Berlin has the most AMAZING street art.)

Toronto is less than an hour flight from Washington D.C, so it is the perfect petit voyage. It’s a city that I am always thrilled to visit. Pre-covid; I traveled there so much that I could give locals directions.

In a state of absolute nostalgia, I would like to share un petit travel vlog.

We ate, we drank, we relaxed, we visited museums, and we had no clue that this would be our last trip for the foreseeable future.

When departing Toronto, we’d just learned about a mysterious, extremely contagious virus that had already claimed the lives of thousands of people. Shortly after we left, Canada closed its borders to the US.

If you’d like a more comprehensive guide to Toronto: where to shop, eat and stay, be sure to let me know in the comments below, and I will create a new post.

I do hope that you all enjoy and watch to the end; there’s an unboxing included.

This video was recorded for Instagram, so it is best viewed vertically on your mobile phone.

Ciao for now 💋

  1. Yes, please give us the info. I live in Detroit and plan on traveling back to Toronto which I haven’t done in 20 years.

  2. Yesss please! We need all the details on Torontowhere to stay, places to shop, eat visit, etc. I would love to go after Covid. I have been to Montreal and I loved it! I would love to retired there in my older age.

  3. Hi Jesse,
Did you really wash the fur coat in the washing machine? I need more information. Was it real fur?

    1. Merci beaucoup for watching the video! I appreciate your time so much! The coat purchased in Toronto was faux fur, but I do have a few trade secrets for refreshing furs that I will post very soon.
